Best Dam Show In Pennsylvania

The Austin Dam Memorial Park was brought to
life last fall with music, dance, beautifully
designed t-shirts and artwork and an incredible
light show.  The setting was a show in itself.
Mother Nature’s vibrant yellows, oranges, and
reds of the season draped the narrow valley
under sunny blue skies, while the dam grooved
to the live rhythms of Hank Roberts and Wiggy
Dog Boy, Cletus and the Barn Burners, Plastic
Nebraska and the Sim Redmond Band, all
critically acclaimed live bands from Ithaca, NY.
Then as the sky darkened, Groovin’ Lumens, a
professional lighting company from Honeoye
Falls, NY, danced a kaleidoscope of colors and
designs across the revitalized Dam as the music
flowed through valley.   The lighting company
duo claims, “The Austin Dam is the best place
we’ve ever done lights!”
The Austin Drama Club with the guidance of
musicians from around the region and
Groovin’ Lumens energized the second
night with a variety show of music, dance
and lights.   Warmed by the music and
campfires, the snuggled crowd blended
their harmonies in to their performance with
many sing-a-long tunes
Within the Dam spirit of the evening but on a mellower note, the Dam became the backdrop of a
video documentary explaining the history of the breaking of the Austin Dam and the resulting
flood that killed 78 in 1911.  Chris Legarski of Montoursville, a long time admirer of the Austin
Dam Memorial Park, created the documentary as a senior project at the Penn College of
Technology at Williamsport.
